Age; 536, though she appears to be 18
House; Loki
Power; Telepathy
Personality; First and foremost, Katherine is a selfish, manipulative girl who shows little to no remorse for her actions. From the beginning, she has always looked out for herself, sacrificing anyone she needs to in the process. She is a master at playing games and spinning the truth for her benefit.
Katherine was originally born in the 1400s as Katerina Petrova. She was exiled from her home town in Bolivia, after getting pregnant before wedlock. Her child was taken from her and given away. From there, she made her way to England where she quickly learned to fend for herself. She had to, as she had drawn the attention of an Original Vampire, Klaus. There, she learned that she was a Petrova doppelgänger, and that a man she had found previously charming actually intended to sacrifice her to break a curse imposed on him. With the help of a friend, Katherine made an escape effort, and she was taken to another vampire, Rose. Once Rose learned who she was, she told Katherine that she wasn't willing to sacrifice her own head to save her and that she would turn her into Klaus as soon as possible. Realizing that the only way Klaus could sacrifice her was if she remained alive, she quickly schemed a way to escape. She hung herself, but not before being given Rose's blood to cure injuries she had received, therefore triggering her own transformation into a vampire. To complete the transformation, she had to drink human blood, which she quickly did from a handmaiden of Rose's. With newfound strength, she fled on her own, leaving Rose and her other friend to face the wrath of Klaus.
From there on, she was on the run. Klaus was after her head, and she wasn't about to let him catch up with her. She could trust no one and was constantly moving from place to place, though even that didn't save her from Klaus' revenge entirely. He had her entire family slaughtered as a warning to her. She then relied on lying and keeping her distance from people to stay safe.
In 1864, things changed for Katherine. A group of vampires she was traveling with settled in Virginia where she met the Salvatore brothers, and for a brief moment, her softer side showed through. She was charming, playful and flirty, and both brothers wound up falling in love with her. Selfishly, instead of choosing one or the other, she decided to take choose them both. Rules meant nothing to her. She was Katherine Pierce, and Katherine always got what she wanted. It worked for a while, and she enjoyed settling in the peaceful Mystic Falls. Things changed, though, when Katherine and the others were exposed as a vampires.
Though she had turned them against each other, both Salvatores rushed to her aid, only to be shot and killed (and later transitioned into vampires thanks to Katherine slipping them her blood over time while they were unaware). She once again catered to her abilities of manipulation, convincing everyone that she had been sealed beneath a church with the other vampires. Instead, she once again fled alone and lived her life safe and away from the Salvatores despite her love for them (and particularly for Stefan Salvatore). Emotions or not, she wasn't about to sacrifice her own well being for anything, even love.
She had saved them though, and she had never stopped keeping her eyes on them, even if it required using other mind controlled or manipulated people to do so.
While she projects the image of being tough and needing no one, on rare occasion, she shows her lonely, sorrowful side. She is shown crying twice in the series, both times related to her family -- when she returned and found them slaughtered and then again when she was remembering them while looking at photographs.
Katherine needs to be seen as in control, even when she isn't. She will lie and insist that she isn't bothered to hide any sign of weakness. Even when she is captured in canon, she spins it so it looks like it actually benefits her, eventually even finding a way to secure her freedom. She sees no shame in running from a situation and leaving everything and everyone behind if that is what it takes to keep her alive.
She is a master of scheming, and even if her plans fail, she has back up plan after back plan. Every time it looks like her plans have been thwarted, Katherine pulls something else out of her sleeve. She appears unstoppable, even when things go wrong and she truly isn't. Her confidence is what makes her a formidable opponent. So long as she appears to be a threat, it doesn't matter if she actually is.
Her goals always come first to her. Her determination to stop Klaus' ritual and breaking of the curse remained her main priority for centuries. Even when things made her wind up back in Mystic Falls, it wasn't without an alternate motive. For her own protection , she spun it as though she had come back for Stefan, insisting that she loved him, had always loved him.
It wasn't entirely untrue, and her jealousy of Elena did shine through occasionally, but ultimately, Katherine hadn't returned for love, nor did she plan to stay. Yet, she still played with the emotions of both brothers (as well as the people they cared about -- even murdering those that mattered to them on occasion so long as it fit her master plan). It is impossible to tell her true feelings about people, as she is willing to sacrifice even those closest to her. Her love for Stefan is, however, unquestionable (she watches him in the shadows from afar and helps him so long as there is no risk of herself getting hurt), though this seems to have little weight in how she goes about situations. She later confesses to Damon that she did love them both, but she wasn't willing to let "let love get in the way".
Katherine's methods for obtaining what she wants are often cruel and ruthless, using a mix of compulsion (mind control) and violence. She will do whatever it takes to accomplish what she wants to, regardless of the mess that it leaves behind. She will gladly murder people to prove her point if it comes down to that. Katherine sees the rest of the world, human and vampire alike, as playthings to suit her whims, entertainment, and ultimate end goal.

Whatever this is, it isn't funny. Do these gods really expect me to help them without anything in it for me? [ She pauses, thinking it over. ] This is up there with the most interesting thing to happen to me this week. Maybe you're in luck after all, Loki. At least I won't be completely bored.
Even if this place is rather drab.
